We receive leaf samples and extract the DNA in each sample. We use targeted sequencing to sequence highly specific genomic areas and examine the sequences for SNPs and mutations that can be associated with known traits.
We evaluate and rank each plant for a wide range of traits. Our computational approach allow us to identify more traits than any other method used today, including complex traits that are controlled by multiple genes.
Geshem Genomics develops a cloud application for managing, analyzing and sharing plant genomic data. We examine plant genomic data for the existence of genetic markers - areas in the genome that are responsible for various traits. Our unique approach is to combine genomic data we receive from various plant breeders using our system with data from the scientific literature, and apply a unique matching algorithm to this database that allows us to identify traits at the genomic data. Our approach is made possible by the recent and significant drop in genome sequencing costs and the advancements in cloud computing.
